Nature’s Way landscaping has been providing Natural Organic Lawn Care in the Kingston and 1000 Islands area for 15 years and each year we try to offer new and improved services and products.

Earlier this year we started to use Granulated Worm Castings from The Sustainable Garden www.sustainablegarden.ca. Very easy to use and reported to have all of the benefits of Worm Castings. I was a little skeptical but we agreed to test them on several lawns where topdressing etc was required and also on one of our test plots.

I am no longer skeptical, the grass has responded very well and on 11 November 2011 we have a test plot that is still very green and growing, the plots around it are slowly going into dormancy. This is some thing we will be offering our Kingston and 1000 Island Lawn Care customers in 2012

This has been quite a wet fall in Kingston and the Thousand Island’s, but at least the plants will enter winter with the water they need.

Natural Organic Lawn Care is designed to Work With Nature, Not Against It. For many years we have advocated leaving clippings on your lawn when mowing, but did you know that you can mulch your leaves on your lawn in the fall. Research clearly indicates that the practice of mulching leaf litter into existing turfgrass canopies provides benefits for the soil and the turfgrass plant. Leaves are a great source of both Organic Matter and are loaded with phosphorus.

With Natural Organic Lawn Care we also try to prevent problems from happening, if you have not already overseeded your lawn, do so now. Perennial Rye grass may still have enough time to germinate and if you overseed your lawn in the problem area’s that has Crabgrass you will go along way to prevent the Crabgrass from germinating in the spring. If you overseed in the fall we can apply Corn Gluten Meal in the spring to prevent Crabgrass seeds from germinating.

We are just finishing our fall fertilization using our Alalfa 5-1-5. This is a granular application using an Alfalfa based fertilizer that is high in triacontanol. Triacontanol is a naturally ocurring growth hormone in Alfalfa, that will help develop the root system.

There is still time to plant your spring Bulbs, if you are unsure about bulbs go to this great web site http://www.digdropdone.com/ .

This is also the time to cut back some of your perennials and clean out the beds, but wait until the soil dries out a little.

A nice cool and wet start to October in the Kingston and 1000 Island area of Ontario.

This would often lead to complaints by Landscapers and Lawn Care Operators, but those of us who practice true Natural Lawn Care are using this time to apply Nematodes.

The correct application requires the Nematodes to be applied to moist soil that is kept moist to allow the Nematode to move through the soil. The application also requires the the Nematode be protected from UV rays, as this will sterilise the Nematode.

The current weather is also very good for grass growth and seed germination, so we take care of this chore as well and our customers do not have to worry about watering the seed or the sod.

The weather has had that magical change, the mornings are now full of dew and the grass is starting to really grow or is it?

This is the time of year we find out if we have serious Grub or Chinch Bug damage, as the lawn comes out of its summer dormancy we will notice some of the grass seems dead or it has been lifted up in clumps, both signs of insect damage.

This is the time of year to apply nematodes for White Grub control and Topdress and seed the lawn to deal with Chinch bug damage. The use of a quality grass seed with a high Endophyte count will help prevent future Chinch bug damage.

This is the time of year we use our new Yeast based fertilizer 6-3-1, the results so far are really good, a nice controlled growth is bringing the lawns out of summer dormancy.
